Administrative instances
For effective operation and administration, the Association was provided with statutes that were filed with the Police Prefecture of Paris, France, under the regime of the French law of July 1, 1901, which regulates non-profit associations. . These statutes allow the admission of “component associations” as well as “individual members.” Four main bodies are defined: the Board of Directors, the Board of Directors, the College of Representatives and the Scientific Council.
The IAICFP has 35 associations and 300 members in total.
History
After the International Congress of Naples “ What psychoanalysis for the couple and the family?” Organized in December 2000, the idea of creating an international association began to germinate.
With the opportunity of the International Congress of Psychoanalytic Family Therapy “ Family Metamorphosis ” organized in May 2004 in Paris, Argentine, Italian and French colleagues (whose countries have been and are nutrient sources of psychoanalytic couple and family therapy) met to move forward with the idea of creating an international association. Various countries were represented: Germany, Italy. Türkiye, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Panama, Peru, United States…
It had been preceded by a preparation of more than two years, to which specialists who practice mainly in Europe, North, Central and South America contributed with conviction. Their efforts made it possible to bring together, beyond borders and linguistic obstacles, different therapists from diverse horizons who practice psychoanalysis of couples and families. They consider the latter as groups that have a specific psychic functioning.
It was during the International Congress of Psychoanalytic Family Therapy “ The part of the ancestors …” organized in Montreal (Quebec – Canada) in August 2006 when the International Association of Family and Couple Psychoanalysis (IAICFP) was founded.
Said Association was officially created and registered in the Prefecture of Paris in November 2006 and whose registration was published in the Official Gazette on December 16, 2006.
The shared theoretical foundations constitute a broad base that is defined as follows: «Couple and family psychoanalysis (PPF) refers to psychoanalytic theories. Its objective, with an appropriate framework, is to facilitate the analysis of the unconscious processes of the couple and the family. To do this, it is based on the development and elaboration of transference and counter-transference.” (Statutes, article 2).
